What is a Swim-a-Thon?
|
|
| |
This Swim-a-Thon will be our
spring fundraiser for the Bayou Barracudas
Swim Team. It is an event in which the
swimmers can earn money for the team by
getting pledges and swimming lengths of the
pool. Swimmers have a two-hour period to
swim a maximum of 200 lengths. Participants
get pledges from businesses, family,
neighbors, etc. prior to swimming. Swimmers
can get pledges and money prior to swimming
while other get pledges per length and
collect the money following the
Swim-a-Thon. Some swimmers can also choose
to get flat rate pledges. A Swim-a-Thon is
the only pledge for length swimming program
recognized by USA Swimming. USA Swimming
will receive 5% or $12 per participant,
whichever is less, of funds earned in this
event. To add to the fun, Bayou Barracuda
families have added the Cinco de Mayo theme
to the event. The event will be pot luck.
Melissa Pierce and Tina Fister will be
organizing the food. Jay Fister has already
graciously agreed to provide our main
course, a roasted pig, while Paul Dugas will
cook his delicious jambalaya. Parent help
is still needed in this area, so please
check the website for updates.

Pledges per length ...
|
|
| |
Swimmers will be given envelopes and pledge
sheets today. Swimmers should start
gathering pledges right away. They can
collect money up front or within seven days
after the event. The final deadline to turn
in all money collected is May 11th,
2007. ** Frank will work out the
details of the swimming on the day of the
event which will be announced at a later
date. ** |

Sample Letters ... |
|
| |
Swimmers can use sample letters available at
our team website,
www.BayouBarracuda.com, to write to
family, friends, or local businesses to
obtain pledges or flat rate donations.
Swimmers can also create their own letters
using these models. Check back after April
3rd. Thanks Maria
